From the Driver's Seat- Thirty-one years old and the best keeps getting better. 2001 has been a good year for the AVCM. Our group is like a second family to most of us. We have no less struggles than most families, but at the end of the day we laugh a lot and truly enjoy our antique vehicle hoppy. Our members also have a serious commitment to patronage of our country and have felt much pain and sorrow for the immense loss of life experienced on September 11, 2001. Christianity plays an important part in our lives as well as direction for our future. Please make plans to attend our Christmas party in the Ethnic Building at the Agriculture Museum on December 8, 2001 at 6:00PM. Let's make this the best event of the year. Thank you for allowing me to be your president over the past year and I truly look forward to many more years with the AVCM as it ages with the rest of us. Consider yourself cordially invited to attend an event that will make your bones feel good. Come to the Main Gate on Airport Road (2-3 miles south from interstates 20). The Parade will start lining up at 9:00 AM on Friday December 7. They will furnish us candy and you might want to bring some more. Either way you will probably run out. Great event to really feel appreciation from those entertained. Please call and confirm your attendance on this event by calling S.W. Bardwell at 825-4093. This is the time of the year when car club members look forward to our annual christmas party. Bob abd I really enjoy this time when we can get together with our AVCM friends to share the holiday season. We consider you our extended family and this traditional holiday gathering is especially meaningful to us. We hope all you newcomers to the club, as well as the "old-timers," will participate. At out club meeting Saturday, the members voted to have the old fashined pot luck dinner. The club is furnishing the meat. As many of you know, Bob Phelps is a wonderful cook. He has graciously agreed to smoke a ham and deep fry some turkeys for the event. Please bring your favorite dish and a copy of the recipe. I'll copy and distribute the recipets later to all who are interested. If you need ideas for what to bring, we need dressing, patatoes, sweet potatoes, vegetables, salad, appetizers, and desserts. For the single men or those who do not cook, you can bring ice, soda, canned cranberry souce, paper plates, dessert plates, utensils, plastic glasses for soda, cups for coffee, rolls. We have napkins. Please call me and leave a message on our answering machine at home at 919-0291, or work 961-6476 before December 4 to let me know how many will be comming and what you will be gringing. We often associate members' names and faces with thier cars and this will help with this process. Additionally, it helps to know people with similar antique cars who can provide valuable information regarding buying/selling, restoration and parts location. Once the Base line information is completed, it will be continually updated so that we know what antique cars our members own. Please take the time (Do It Now) to complete the information requested on the form sent with the newsletter and mail it to the AVCM address listed or bring it to the Christmas party on December 8. |
