August 2003

AUGUST-Meeting

Sat.-August 23rd.

Fed and Peggy Dixon's Shell oil Rd. off Hwy 18

From the Driver's Seat- Wellit was another hot month and I don't think it's gonna change this month! We had a crisis with our club liability inusrance being canceled. The company we've had for years discontinued this type of insurance effective with our renewal date of 7-25-03. We were notified by them one month before that date. We shopped for more than three weeks, nobody wanted us! They don't want a non profit liability policy, nor did they want Mississippi. I sure was frantic when we finally fot a quote from one for 2,606.25 per year, for the same coverage we had b4 for 500.00 per year. Well, the day our coverage ended our agent called and said he found us a carrier for the same coverage as before for 564.00 per year. ($64.00 more) hallelujah! Wayne and I mailed him a check on that Monday!!!
I met with Lester Spell to go over our agreement for the fair show. He approved us paying 1/4th the total cost of the trophies this year. This was approved by the club during the June meeting.
We had a wonderful turnout at the World of Show & Go 7/11/03-7/13/03 in the Trademark Bldg. We recieved the Club Participation Award for the most vehicles entered. We were presented a nice plaque and I plan to hang it in our club trailer some way. Bernard has put our car show dash plques on the inside door and they look so nice and we can see which cars have een feature cars. Anyway we had 25 club vehicles there, including 2 vehicles of John Davis, as I signed him up as a member again on Sat. Welcome back John and Rachel. (They have moved back fomr the coast)
I'm sorry we missed the club meeting and barbeque on 7/20. We were in Gadsen, ALA at an annual flea market and car show we got to every year. I heard everyone had a great time and had lots to eat! I was even told what a great job Margie did conducting the meeting in mine and Jerry Harding's absence. I was also told it was Short and Sweet ok, ok, I get the picture.
A reminder to everyone we need to sell car mats! Curtis & I sold $170.00 worth in June ans $60.00 worth in July. Hey, at this rate we're gonna be still selling mats for the next 10 years!
Our big event is the upcomming fair show in October, and it's less than 2 months away. We need everyone's help!
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at Fred Dixon's Sat. Aug 23rd for our meeting and Feast! Windell Dickerson said he was gonna help Fred cook!!! Oh Dear! Fred has asked that we only bring dessert! Let's get those cars out and cruise to Fred's. It'll be a nice outing and we can blow out the soot in our cars too!
Now, let's roll while having fun!

Pat Clark, President

MISCELLOUS FILLER

The Business Meeting on 7/20 went well. John Emory started the meeting and announced 2 birthdays celebrated in chorus for Virginia Morris, and Harry Fitzpatrick. Mr Emory continued with the opening prayer before Dinner. The Bar B Q went nicely. Marge Phelps did the business part of the meeting, Wayne Hilliard did a treasurers report. 1 former and 1 new member were announced and voted in. They are Rachel and John Davis, and Julia and Kevin Myers from Raymond. They have a 67 Mustang, and a 59 Lark. The meeting was very lengthy-all of about 20 minutes. It was mentioned that Mr Emory would probably not be invited back as MC because he let the ladies eat first. 52 folks attended. Lester Spell sent a thank you not to the club for all the participation and especially the cars that came on the Sunday that he had guests at the Ag Museum. The next meeting is August 23rd at Fred and Peggy Dixon's.

Gadsden Swap Meet: Pat Clark reported about the 7/18-19 Annual Gadsden Alabama Show & Swap Meet. She and Curtis attended and report: that their Model A motor made a round trip to gadsden this year. Bad weather and flip flopping the dates prior to the meet were major factors for the lack of participation this time. They met Fred Dixon there, and will probably go again next year.
Show & GO went well as reported by Bob Jackman and Pat Clark. The Show & Go frmo 7/11-13 was very productive and eventful for the club and our members. We recieved the Club Participation Award for the most vehicles entered. 25 vehicles were entered the club. Robert Jackman and his 63 t-bird won best in class, and the Show Promoters Award. There are no other reports of other awards at this time. Jerry Hardin's 1930 Model A won first in Model a&t Class. Curtis Clark's 1914 T Model won second place. Freddie Freeman's '63 Studebaker Lark won first place in its class.
On the Road I came across a unique opportunity during a visit to Illinois over the 4th of July. I came across 2 intersecting car lots. One was near Springfield, IL and the other near St Louis MO; both are along I55. Some were rust buckets and others were not too far gone but all were very expensive. There in a website (www.countyclassics.com & www.daves.classic.cars.com) for each and I have a VHS video of some of the vehicles if anyone wants to view it. Jeff Kelly 898-1553
